Chennault's Flying Tigers
Artist Proof | No. 118/1250 | Seventeen Signatures
This dramatic aviation artwork captures a scene from the distant air war fought over the jungles of Burma during World War II.
In the foreground, two P-40 Tomahawks of the 2nd Pursuit Squadron, famously known as the "Panda Bears," race into action. Just above the jungle treetops, a Japanese bomber crashes into the water as two additional P-40s close in on another Nakajima bomber.
The scene celebrates the legendary Flying Tigers, led by General Claire Chennault, whose extraordinary air combat record became one of the most celebrated chapters in aviation history. The American Volunteer Group was credited with 299 confirmed Japanese aircraft destroyed, along with numerous additional unconfirmed victories.
